Mask Off started at my kitchen table.
Like a lot of families, we spent years misunderstanding each other while genuinely trying our best. We had the arguments, the hurt feelings, the moments where everyone walked away thinking, “That’s not what I meant.”
In our family, ADHD, autism, anxiety, giftedness, and very different communication styles all live under the same roof. We love each other deeply, but love alone doesn’t automatically teach people how to communicate.
We learned that most conflicts weren’t caused by bad intentions. They were caused by misunderstandings.
One person was trying to solve a problem. Another person was trying to feel understood.
One person valued directness. Another valued harmony.
One person heard criticism. The other thought they were being helpful.
The gap between intention and interpretation can be surprisingly large.
Mask Off was created to help bridge that gap. The point was never to teach people to become someone they’re not, or to mask harder. It’s about helping people better understand themselves, understand others, and practice communication in a way that feels safe.
What began as tools I wanted for my own family has grown into a collection of resources, exercises, roleplays, and conversations designed to help people navigate real life interactions with a little more confidence and a little less fear.
Whether you’re autistic, ADHD, both, neither, or simply someone trying to connect with the people you care about, you’re welcome here.
We’re not chasing perfect communication. We’re after better communication.
Because the people we love deserve our effort.
And because being understood shouldn’t feel impossible.
